WEEK 1

On the first week, Ms. Jinchi gave us a general brief on what we are going to do in this semester. To my understanding, this module will be some kind of introduction to design research. We are going to do some research in a more basic level, before taking it to the next level with the Design Research Dissertation module in the future semester.

We are to choose the design specialization that we wanna delve into for this module. Note that this chose specialization only applies to this module alone, and won't affect our actual specialization in our study.

By the end of this week, we are to look into the specialization briefing videos provided by Ms. Jinchi, and then we can decide on what specialization that we wanna take, as well as to come up with a research topic for us to discuss with our respective mentor in class next week.

As a semester 5 student, I have long since started to do modules within my specialization, which is Digital Animation. But just in case, I looked through all the specialization briefing to see if there is anything that I'm interested into.

Game design, which is a part of Entertainment Design Specialization, seems like an interesting field to explore. But considering I only know mostly about the gameplay and not the making, I'm not sure that I even have a deep enough questions to ask and explore in the research. So in the end, I decided to play it safe and took Digital Animation as my specialization.

I have a topic that came up to mind, and it was about how 2D Animation seems to have a more natural expression and movement, with Anime being more and more popular to poker face/cold style. On the contrary, 3D animation such as Disney and Pixar tends to be more "expressive"
